Week of April 13, 2015

Here's what we are learning for the week:

Math:
I can use objects and pictorial models to solve word problems with known beginnings or middles or after the equal sign.  
I can explain strategies used to solve addition and subtraction problems up to 20 using words, objects, number sentences, and pictorial models.  


Reading / Social Studies:
I can locate the United States and Texas on a map or globe. 
I can identify the four geographic regions of Texas. 
I can identify and locate land forms and bodies of water in Texas. 
I can identify sensory details in Texas tales. 

Writing:

I can read and listen to find facts and details for my research. 
I can put information into my own words. 
I can edit for capital letters and punctuation. 

Spelling:  
I can spell words with the rime patterns -ide and -ine.

When your child practices writing their spelling words at home, please make sure they are using capital letters correctly.  The only word that needs a capital letter is the word I.  All others should be written with lowercase letters without a capital letter added where it doesn't belong.

Science:
I Can:
  • observe, compare, describe, and sort components of soil by size, texture, and color.
  • gather evidence of how rocks, soil, and water help to make useful products.
