Week of January 26, 2015

Here's what we are learning for the week:

Math:
 I can understand that the equal sign represents equal values on both sides of the sign. 
I can measure different lengths of objects using non-standard units. 
I can measure and compare the lengths of different objects using non-standard units. 

Reading / Social Studies:
I can review and show that I understand Reader's Workshop expectations. 
I can learn about different historical figures and tell why they are important in history. 

Writing:
I can establish a purpose for writing.  
I can explain my purpose for writing a letter. 
I can include the correct parts of a letter. 

Spelling:  
 I can spell words with the -ea vowel combination and the st blend.

Challenge Words
1.    starfish
2.   squeak

When your child practices writing their spelling words at home, please make sure they are using capital letters correctly.  The only word that needs a capital letter is the word I.  All others should be written with lowercase letters without a capital letter added where it doesn't belong.

Science:
I can investigate how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats. 
I can describe how organisms resemble their parents.
I can identify and describes the processes that help organisms survive within their environments.
