Week of January 19, 2015

Here's what we are learning for the week:

Math:

I can apply fact strategies to add and subtract within 20.
I can explain strategies used to solve addition and subtraction problems up to 20 using words, objects, pictorial models, and number sentences.
I can generate and solve problem situations when given a number sentence involving addition and subtraction of numbers within 20.
I can represent word problems involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers

Reading / Social Studies:
I can identify the contributions made by Martin Luther King Jr.
I can explain why Martin Luther King is an important person to remember in our country.
I can review map skills.
I can name and point to the cardinal directions as labeled in the classroom.

Writing:
I can create a procedural writing piece.
I can understand the purpose for procedural writing.
I can review nouns, verbs, and adjectives.

Spelling:  Review Week

I can spell words with the rime pattern -ing & -ay.

Challenge Words

When your child practices writing their spelling words at home, please make sure they are using capital letters correctly.  The only word that needs a capital letter is the word I.  All others should be written with lowercase letters without a capital letter added where it doesn't belong.

Science:
  • I can investigate how the external characteristics of an animal are related to where it lives, how it moves, and what it eats.
  • I can describe how organisms resemble their parents.
  • I can identify and describes the processes that help organisms survive within their environments.
